I remember sitting in a first year law class and my prof said something that still sticks with me today. She said "In your lifetime, you will change your career 7 times". She then went on to tick off the career/job changes she experienced up until that point. To clarify, that class was an elective - I had zero aspirations on becoming a lawyer!
When I was little, I desperately wanted to be a nurse. More specifically, I wanted to be a labour and delivery nurse. As a kid, I had no idea on how I was going to achieve that but all I knew was that I wanted to sit and take care of babies day in and day out. I remember my grandmother would say "Here's a little money to tuck away for school so that you can become a baby nurse".
Once I realized that I needed a super math and science brain to head down that path, I gave up that dream and entered into a music program instead. Arts, English and History were my favourite subjects in school with music being my absolute favourite.
I graduated with a music degree and was looking at becoming a teacher but at the time, they were cutting arts programs from high schools and jobs were extremely competitive and few and far between. I started off working office jobs for a bit until I became an I.T. Recruiter. This was a career path that I really loved as I was able to connect with people to help them find their dream job or, helping that new grad find their first job.
Then life as a Mum took over and I left my career behind to focus on them and really, the job title of Mum will always be my favourite job title to date. Given that they were in school full time though, I needed something in my life to balance it all out which led me to create "The Shoppe". I pulled together my crafty/arty side along with my work experience to get things off and running.
Now, if we're counting I'm up to #5 on the career track and given that I absolutely love what I have created here, I have no plans to change that but will there be a #6 or #7 in my future? I guess time will tell!
