What Autumn Teaches Me About Slowing Down
Those summer months can be hot. The kind of hot where your thighs stick to every chair, your hair decides to march to the beat of its own drum, and even your dog looks like he's questioning all his life choices. It’s that oppressive, sticky kind of heat that feels like a personal attack and drains every ounce of energy and motivation you have.
Having said all of that, you can bet your bottom dollar that I am daydreaming of those precious "ber" months. Those precious autumn months that lead us right into Christmas.
While everyone else is sipping frozen cocktails and pretending to enjoy the smell of sunscreen, I’m over here craving the scent of cinnamon, crispy leaves, and baked apples. I don’t want another salad, I want a stew that’s been simmering for four hours. I don’t want to go to the beach, I want to go apple picking in a cable knit sweater that I can finally wear without melting into a puddle.
It's getting back to the fall/autumn routine with back to school, thanksgiving and Halloween. It means cooler evenings tucked under a handmade blanket, turning on a soft light, and hauling out a forgotten knitting project you've been meaning to finish. It's a chance to just slow down.
It’s the season that invites us to slow down, make something with our hands, and reconnect with the little things that matter most.
