Cross Stitching - why it's awesome!
Ok, I'm going to go back in time a little but during my 2nd year of university, I rented a room from a lovely couple. My "University Mum" (as I called her) was a crafter.
I remember an evening where she was buzzing around, packing up her craft bag to head out for a "stitch and bitch". Let me tell you - I needed in on this mysterious girl group phenomenon! So, she pulled out her supplies and taught me how to cross stitch, explaining how to thread your needle properly and make a knot to start off the counted thread embroidery.
Since then, I’ve made many cross stitch patterns and packaged them up as handmade gifts. As we all know, anything handmade is superior to anything found in a store, even if it has a mistake or two. But honestly, it’s not even about the finished project (although that part is pretty great). It’s the process of making something and watching your pattern slowly come to life.
It's planning your own "stitch and bitch" craft night with friends, where the only rule is that you show up in PJs. Trust me, these craft nights are fuel for the soul. It's less about creating and more about therapy with your best friends.
I love getting lost in a cross stitch pattern. You’re focused on the pattern, counting stitches, and switching colours. Before you know it, your phone is sitting off to the side, completely ignored. You get to check out of real life for a little bit and honestly, we all need that sometimes.
If you’ve ever felt like you needed a way to unwind that isn’t scrolling your phone or zoning out in front of the TV then cross stitching might be exactly what you’re looking for. It doesn’t take much to start cross stitching, and once you do, it’s one of those things that just quietly becomes part of your routine.
If you're curious and want to look at learning how to cross stitch, then my kits are a great place to start. Even if you've never picked up a needle before, these kits walk you through threading your needle, making knots, and following a cross stitch project step-by-step.
