December 01, 2021
We are now into December where the Christmas season officially begins and we start looking forward to a new year. I like to think that this year was a huge improvement from 2020 but it was still an odd year right? I have hope that things will be even better for 2022 - fingers crossed.
Given that Covid crashed the party last year and forced us to stay home, I think we realized just how important Christmas traditions are. Perhaps we took those time honoured traditions for granted a little because they always happened - every year. I am hopeful that this year, we'll see a return to some of those traditions.
What does Christmas look like in your neck of the woods? Here is a list of what happens in our home (in no particular order):
*I start decorating in November so I can enjoy December. I always feel like once December 1st arrives, Christmas arrives seconds after so I want to try and enjoy it as much as possible before it's over.
*I write out and send Christmas cards every year without fail and have done so for years.
*On Christmas Eve, we pack up and head to my cousin's home for dinner, presents and family time. Once we are back home, I watch Alastair Sim's "Scrooge" followed by "White Christmas" with a tea or Baileys. This is where we wrap up the last minute presents and set everything up under the tree.
*When the kids were little, I put a mini tree into their rooms and told them that on Christmas Eve, Santa would come and sneak a small present under that tree. That backfired as they were all on high alert to catch him sneaking into their room. There were a lot of late night Christmas Eve's back in the day - lol Even though my kids are now teenagers, I still sneak in and put that present under their little tree.
*Everyone gets a new set of Christmas PJ's for Christmas Eve. When they were little and we were heading off to dinner on Christmas Eve, I would always make an excuse to duck back into the house so I could hang their personalized PJ totes on their doorknobs. It looked like "Santa" made his delivery while we were out and they loved it. Again, even though my kids are older, everyone gets new PJs on Christmas Eve, in that same personalized tote.
*Christmas Day is a quiet day with just us so a puzzle may get started, or we'll play a new board game with a Christmas movie playing in the background. A good dinner and wine is always involved.
However you spend your day, I am wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas and we'll see you in 2022!! xo
